Newton Park: cycle route in the offing?
Our 'Quiet roads' route is a casualty of satnav systems and while it's still a pleasant route if you're cycling, it is no longer so quiet. B&NES along with its neighbouring local authorities have successfully bid for around £24 million from the DfT's local sustainable transport fund, in part for an east-west route across the city of Bath to the University's Newton Park campus. The council are now talking with the University and with the Students Union to help plan the route which is likely to be an improved path alongside the A4 dual carriageway, connecting via a ramp to the Bristol to Bath path.
Two Tunnels route: a shared use path
delivered to your door in 2012
Expecially if you live in Oldfield Park or the Waterside halls of residence, this is for you. The Two Tunnels project is into the build phase - with two new bridges - one close to BSU's Dartmouth Avenue workshops - going in. Monksdale Road's bridge went in in March 2012, work on the Dartmouth Avenue bridge is now in progress. B&NES and Sustrans are working on another vital part of this link - the section across the existing rail line and then the Lower Bristol Road, where a controlled crossing will be provided. Lastly, the work to complete the southern half of the route started in July, most of the work will be done from a single access at Bloomfield Road. More here.

Newton Park: New Showers
New showers are now available, free of charge, at the top of Newton Park campus near the sports pitches (last buildings facing the overflow car park, white doors). Open from 7am daily. There are two sets of showers - the first set (nearer the SU) are 'male' and the other 'female'. Users might want to beware as there are no signs to that effect!
BSU staff travel expenses
If your cycle travel is work-related, from July 2005 you can claim expenses for the travel.
